“But seek the welfare of the city…and pray to the LORD on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.” — JEREMIAH 29:7
When you hear “urban” what comes to mind? Vibrant cities full of diversity and potential? Centers of blight without resources? Metropolitan areas that have no connection to the well-being of you and your family? None of these images reflect the totality of what it means to be urban, yet all of these images are a part of the challenge and promise that makes urban ministry so unique. Whether we are in the city or the suburbs, our welfare is tied to the welfare of the urban centers in our midst. As Christians, we are called to embrace the city in its fullness as we bear witness to Jesus Christ.
“Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent. For I am with you, and no one is going to harm you, because I have many people in this city.” — ACTS 18:9B-10
Are you looking for an opportunity to do hands on service as part of your Christian experience? If asked would your response be the same as Matthew 25:44 “Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or as a stranger or naked or sick or in prison and didn’t help you?” Or will you say “Lord, I saw you hungry and regularly provided food on Celebration Sunday and supported the Cents-Ability collection. I saw you as a stranger and offered assistance through my volunteer and financial support of the Crisis Ministry and the Interfaith Hospitality Network.”
FPCG has many opportunities this fall to enable you to participate in hands-on ministry in addition to your ongoing financial support of our mission and outreach activities.
